An implementation of Jhonnata Oliveira's interdisciplinary undergraduate research, Sango for Android is a personal blood glucose monitoring app.
A tool for the treatment of diabetes, Sango ("sangue" means blood in Portuguese) offers a creative alternative to commercial blood glucose meters. A small and attachable accessory magnifies and positions the test strip in front of the smartphone's camera, to generate an image. This image is processed by a colorimetric algorithm and the user's glucose level is calculated. The app also classifies each test result on a green/yellow/red scale (against desirable glucose values) and stores all measurements on the device. These measurements can be filtered by date and displayed as a chart.
The Sango app is still not available for download. More information on the Sango project can be found here.
